Discussion:
putting linuxap on a CVS + update via wget + rewriting the web interface

Hello,

Several remarks regarding linuxap:

1. I think many people want to contribute to the linuxap project, maybe
it could be a good idea to have a CVS so has to submit patches
2. Busybox is moving from the old branch to a new stable version, which
include ipv6 support and new features; I don't know if the latest
version is reliable enough, but we should have a look to switch to the
next stable version of busybox
3. Is there a script to update the flash image (download+md5) via wget
instead of tftp?
4. Is someone motivated to rewrite the webinterface with a more
beautiful css layer?

I'm forking the linuxap project to make meshes boxes via kernel-aodv
(ad-hoc mode only), see http://sixmesh.sf.net.

uops! some people of wireless groups around spain are mantaining a group
of patches for linuxAP that add some features to actual linuxAP (sorry,
but the Changelog is in spanish):
1.- Kernel AODV support (it was not much hard to add ;))
2.- hostap 0.0.4
3.- hostap 0.0.3 (as 4 eliminates txpower function 'cause distortionates
signal)
4.- busybox 1.00-pre2 (with some added features)
5.- openvpn (that's our last addition, but it's not all done yet ;))
6.- other minor changes (as a watchdog for the wireless card, that on
some APs hangs until you reconfigure it)

we are also thinking on using a CVS to make all our changes as a branch
of the project, but opening a "global" CVS for all the interested
developers would IMHO be a good point for the community

ups! and the web page where we put our patches and images:
http://www.olotwireless.net/castella/linuxap.htm
(i can send you the patches if you tell me)

read you!

PD: all the changes we made are with the wl11000 architecture on mind,
but trying to put as much as possible on ./ instead of ./wl11000 (well,
part of this migration is work in progress :P)

yes, publish them somewhere or here on the list.

read you!
I see we are making the same job!

I want absolutly IPv6, but the size of the ipv6.o module is too huge, so
I've just patched busybox so as to win some kbytes for the 1MB flash of
the wl11000.

I think if Keith Smith want to setup a public CVS, it could be great to
have a central place to put patches. The main problem is to manage the
branches, but it's better to have all in a central place.

I've subscribed to busybox-list for a long time, and with the stable
version coming to relase, there is a lot of discussion on the list...

A friend of mine is hacking the dlink AP, I think we will have a version
of linuxap running on it very soon...

well, as another guy and myself are still testing them, i'm attaching
you the latest version of patches (warning! as i said it's *untested*),
to be used with the latest linuxap version (01-09-2003)

all changes are on the Changelog file, and usage on LEEME file, although
it's everyting in spanish... sorry! :P

totally agree (does CVS keep track of links and binary files? or only plain
text files and directories? i hadn't worked much with it, just some
basic commands)

keeping track of such big additions like IPv6, kernel AODV and the
others on a central place would really make our (networking) lives easier
(with or without CVS), leaving the minor tunning changes to each community,
instead of publishing each of us patches for linuxap with crossing
interests (is this correct? my english is not as good as i would...)

for any questions about the patches, you know...

bye!

PS: hope the attachement to the list doesn't bother anybody...
